It's still WIP, but it should be available very soon. <br />Using the UV mapping of an object, it can extract flat texture map from any Carrara shader, giving then the possibility to rework it in other traditional 2D software.<br /><br />Baker can also bake lightmap and normal map. <description><![CDATA[Hi Julien,<br /><br />I'm trying to get a normal map, using Baker, from an object with Anything Grooves applied. It seems like the only way I can get Baker to create the normal map (or any type of map for that matter ) is to export my object as an OBJ and then reimport it. Using "convert deformed object to mesh" and then trying to open it in the vertex modeler crashes Carrara. <description><![CDATA[Hello All,<br /><br />I think I don't quite understand how a normal map can simulate geometry.<br /><br /><img src='http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeed4z1/normal%20map%20test%2015%20info.jpg' class='bbcode' alt=''  /><br /><br />I created a normal map from the original mesh object on the left with Baker. The middle object is a primitive sphere with the normal map from the original object applied with Baker. The right object is a primitive sphere converted to a mesh, with the same normal map applied with Baker.<br /><br />Should the normal map make the edges of the spheres wrinkled like the original? Also, should the normal map modify the terminator of the shadow area so that it is irregular, as in the original object? Finally, the terminator on the right object is like a sawtooth. Note that the shadow cast from the middle sphere onto the right sphere is smooth. <description><![CDATA[Julien,<br /><br />I am about ready to buy Velouté shader plug-in for Carrara.   I tried the "trial".  Still have a few questions....<br /><br />1. As a user, can I develop a new "shape" to add to the basics of Velouté shader shapes ....like a new shape of a tile or stone or ???  or am I "stuck" with the styles/designs you have pre-programmed?  <br /><br />see next question.<br /><br />2, I am planning to use Velouté for architectural rendering.  I'm looking for 3 specific design types of roofing/siding but did not find them in Velouté nor in the downloaded Velouté shaders. How would I generate a Velouté image for a typical cedar shake shingle and for a semi-circle bottom edge siding shingle as often found on Victorian houses or for simple lap siding? If just mapped photos, what does Velouté add as an advantage?<br /><br /><br />4. I can generate textured images with color and bump maps...I'm still trying to find out the advantages of Velouté other than its easy to adjust size, noise, and bump mapping is "automatic"....Can Velouté do something I can't do manually? Plug-ins like Veloute can be used in network rendering, but they need to be installed on each node of the network. <description><![CDATA[Firstly may I thank Inagoni for a superb product in Architools, which we recently purchased. This package has provided genuine and considerable benefits to our company's offering, and it's so easy to use.<br /><br />We have been using Carrara Basics II with Architools very successfully on Mac OS X 10.3.9, but we do have one important problem we simply must solve.<br /><br />The buildings created using the Architools plug-in are very limited in size. We would very much like to produce buildings using a scale that matches real buildings in dimensions. This is especially noticeable when we place (Carrara library) objects in a scene or room - they are simply huge compared to the building created automatically from Architools. We are having to scale our ideas, objects and so on to match the limited sized buildings.<br /><br />Is this correct or are we missing a trick when creating our buildings and setting up parameters?<br /><br />The problem seems to be a combination of the size of the default 3D canvas (as it were) provided by Carrara Basics and the object size parameter adjustments possible in Architools (input is restricted to upper limits not congruous with real world scales or sizes).<br /><br />Does this problem exist when using Architools with Carrara 3 or 4 fuller versions?<br /><br />I very much look forward to hearing your feedback on the only problem to spoil an otherwise brilliant partnership between two exceptional software components.<br /><br />Kind regards,<br /><br />Karl<br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Hi, I'm new to the forum but I've owned Architool for quite some time now. It's a wonderful plug-in. My question is: How do I import a backdrop (blue print) into Architools, I tried using "Import" but that's just for 3D files and not related to Architools; I've also tried setting the backdrop before going into Architools but nothing shows up when I enter the "Architools Room".<br />I also purchased Replica and SWAP and they rock too!!]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I just wondered if the default parameters were based on an approximate scale formula.  I have no idea what standard heights are, so I guessed at 1:28 and then 1:35 working to get a 2.1" door to seem right. <description><![CDATA[Hi,<br />I'm playing with Architools and I find it very useful and well done.<br /><br />My background (doing primarily architectural modeling) is with 3dsmax. For my new activity the licenses are too expensive so I've switched to Carrara and found Architools (thanks god).<br /><br />The only (so far) feature that i miss from Max is the railing tool. If I'm not overllooking something (which is very possible!) such a tool is not present in this plugin. Do you plan to implement this feature?<br /><br />If it is present than...sorry! <description><![CDATA[<img src='http://inagoni.com/e107_images/emotes/default/rolleyes.png' alt='' style='vertical-align:middle; border:0' /> ]Hello, the plug-ins are great.I think I brought most of them now through DAZ.I'm having a problem though with the deformer noise not animating.I followed the primivol tutorial plus downloaded the Carrara file.In his setup for the fire.The deformer noise ramps from 0 to <br />-40.00 on the z axis.when you snub the 4 second timeline.The problem is when I follow the tutorial.I cannot get the setting to ramp up or down over the timeline.The setting for the noise is 0.00 at the beinging of the timeline.After moving in the timeline to the 4 second mark. and resetting it to -40.00 the whole timeline then is change to -40.00. When I play the animation the flames move ofcouse [that part works.] but the noise is static.Setting a keyframe and trying to change the setting is a no go too.This is also true for the smoke primivol.Any help or if doing I'm doing something wrong let me know , thanks[undefined]]></description>

After making 15 buildings or so, Carrara starts to really bog down and takes forever to "load" each frame for rendering. <description><![CDATA[I don't understand why these appear so small:  The default level height is 0.25 ft, and the wall 0.02 ft.<br /><br />The program does not accept entry of larger default values, and scaling the building breaks doors and windows, etc.  <img src='http://inagoni.com/e107_images/emotes/default/special.png' alt='' style='vertical-align:middle; border:0' />  <br /><br />I'm running the latest version of April 6, 2008. <description><![CDATA[I use Primvol a lot and recently have put together a server to add another couple of processors and speed up rendering. I installed Primvol into  Carrara Render Node and did a test render of a file with several Primvol objects. The plug in asked for registration on the render node so it obviously loaded OK, but when the network render tiles reached a Primvol object, they stuck and would not render. The other processors rendered the rest of the frame, just leaving the network ones and the Primvols hanging. Has anyone else seen this, or could I have done something wrong (like not noticing that Primvol registration doesn't include a render node licence).]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I'm trying to use Architools to create 3d buildings for a video game. Architools overlaps the ceiling or top of the building with the walls so it makes jagged edges when rendered in the game. The engine is rendering the roof and then the top of the wall because the intersection of the two reside in the same space in the world. This causes all the models made in ArchiTools to have blinking lines at all the intersections in the model. Roof/wall - wall/floor - etc...<br /><br />Is there anyway I can get around this? I looked and didnt see a way to change the X, Y, or Z cords for a wall, roof, ceiling, etc...<br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I just noticed something strange. I have an animated scene which consists of a single large Primivol object, nothing else. I found it was rendering more slowly than I expected and when I checked I discovered that it was using only the equivalent of a single processor on my quad processor machine, ie: a maximum of 25% of each core. I tried it on my quad core machine and it used around 50% of each core. It seems to actually render slightly faster on the dual core than the quad.  I have multi threading turned on and other scenes seem to be maxing out on all cores, even when they contain small Primivols<br />Has anybody else seen this or could there be something wrong with either my Carrara installs or my scene.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I was wondering if I could possably pick someones brain about how to specifically use Baker. I kinda get the basics as stated on the website, but either I am doing something wrong, or it just can't do what I need it to.<br /><br />Typically I load my model into Carrara, this is an import of a .obj file and is split into 3 sections, the Head, Upper Body and Lower Body, each contain it's own special UV MAP. Then I apply just a plain black color directly onto the model itself, I set up all my lights around it, and in the render room I make sure sky light and indirect lighting is off. Basically I am trying to simulate a black latex skin, directly on the model.<br /><br />Now, I might be mistaken but I had thought that by using Baker, it would bake the texture on the object I have selected and return a 2d version of that texture, based off of the UV Map, and it does to a point, I see the UV Maps when I try it, but I see no detail all I seem to get are black images with a white background where the alpha would be, or plain white textures, or grey textures.<br /><br />What am I doing wrong here, OR..did I misunderstand what Baker could do?<br /><br />Basically, I want to bake the texture onto the object, Where I could then see the texture on a flat surface 'unfolded' if you would, the texture placed on the flat image where it would appear if the UV MAP were rewrapped in 3D again.<br /><br />Hope I explained myself correctly. <description><![CDATA[Hi,<br />although I've had the advance pack since the Daz merger, I haven't really done much in 3D since Hex 1 came out.<br />But I decided to do a piece for CGSphere now, and I'm going to be using primivol and probably replica for a bunch of spaceships invading earth.<br />I think I'm getting decent results on the blue exhaust flames with a twist modifier and some simple customisation of the ramp off,<br />but I would really like to try out the taper modifier to perfect the results.<br />However, taper is nowhere to be found, I have:<br />Bulge, Noise, Punch, Scale, Shift, Stretch, Twist and Wave.<br /><br />In the old flame tutorials from 3DXtract and here on the site, it says to use taper. What happened to it?<br /><br />Also, I'm looking forward to seeing a multi-processor-enabled version of PrimiVol. (Could it perhaps be done by caching, similar to physics and particles being calculated prior to rendering?)<br /><br />EDIT:<br />Using negative bulge and having the Z+ distance ramp off set up, I could get a decent taper effect.<br />And come to think of it, I've been rendering PrimiVol fog for the earth's atmosphere on three processors over a network and it seems to have been working fine, so I'm guessing you've already synchronised it?<br /><span class='smallblacktext'>[ Edited  ]</span>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Hi,  <br />Is there a tutorial on building things to scale in Architools? I think I must be thick as no matter what I try and do I always seem to have to zoom right out a huge amount to fit everything into the Architools modeler. <description><![CDATA[Hi. Architools looks very promising if I can get it to work. It is definately easy to create rooms with this tool.<br /><br />Here is my problem. I want to be able to create buildings in Carrara and then export them to Poser. Unfortunately, even a simple room with a door and a window, when exported via the OBJ export to Poser does not work. The problem appears to be with the irregular polygons that are formed from cutting doors and windows into a wall face. <description><![CDATA[Hi!<br /><br />I'm using Baker (very handy tool!) and have some trouble with applying the baked texture back to the model.  I have a model I created in the vertex modeler and it is simply a hollow tube.  I created it by removing the ends of a Constructed 3D cylinder and then Added Thickness.<br /><br />I texture it in the texture room using the Checkers preset texture.  To make it align properly with the model I apply a cylindrical projection mapping.  At this point the texture maps perfectly to the model.<br /><br />Off to the assembly room where I invoke Baker on just the Diffuse channel, get my checker skin and assign it to a file.  Back to the texture room, where I assign a new multichannel shader to the model and load the baked texture into the color channel as a texture map.<br /><br />Now the texture is distorted on the model, the checkers having wavy edges.  I get the same result when I apply this texture in my game engine, which is what I'm really doing, but the problem is easily demonstrated just within Carrara.<br /><br />Is there something I should do differently or is this a limitation of some kind?<br /><br />Thanks!<br />Mal<br /><br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Hi, i'm interested by your Baker plug-in, but i can't seem to find the information on the product page so i thought i would ask here.<br />Is there a size limit for the baked map, and if yes, which one ?<br />The other question i have is : Is it possible to bake the color of a procedurally textured terrain ?<br /><br />I ask this because i like a lot the way Carrara is doing its terrain and the capacity of the shader editor for terrain texturing, but i need to use these capacities with another render engine (LightWave...) because Carrara's one isn't powerful enough for archviz.<br />This is why i'd like to know the upper limit of the baked maps. <description><![CDATA[All; I'm having a issue with the ArchiTools June 9 beta on Carrara 8, I can create structures in a new scene, but if I open a scene created in Carrara 7 with ArchiTools .1.3 I get a "File Open Error" and  Carrara exits. I don't know if it's a error that you are aware of or not. This is not meant to be a complaint, as I love your products, and I am aware that this is a Beta. If I remove the ArchiTools folder from the extensions folder the file will open, without,of course, my buildings.<br /><br />My configuration info is :<br />Win XP SP3<br />3GB ram <br />Carrara 8 32 bit build 231<br />April 9 build of all of my registered plugins (Everything except SWAP)<br /><br /><br />EDIT: OK I'm a moron, the 9 June build of all of the plugins, that's what I get for trying to get this in at the end of lunch... <br /><br />Any additional info you require, I will be happy to supply<br /><br />           R/S<br />       Patrick Sullivan<br /><br /><br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Hi,<br />This is a feature I would really like to see in Carrara - the ability to take low poly models and add real geometry details to them during the render. It's not just useful for animation; scene handling in the Assembly Room would be a breeze and yet your scene could contain effectively millions of polygons. I use ZBrush for making detailed models [this software is used on feature films like LOTR for character creation] but at the moment Carrara (which I love for it's rendering) can't handle the really big meshes without slowing to a crawl. <br /><br />Julien is looking into this idea  [great!] but it would be useful if anybody else who's keen on this feature being added posts here so that he can gauge the interest. But most of them would take quite some time to implement, and therefore would be a higher price than the current ones.<br />-	cloth<br />-	soft body dynamics<br />-	hair/fur<br />-	deformation lattice<br />-	Another terrain modeler, with tools similar to the Sim City kind of game (a mountain brush, a river one,..)<br />-	Fluids dynamics<br />-	Subsurface scattering<br />-	translucency<br /><br />Now these are plugin that can’t be done or already exist:<br />-	Tool in the Assemble Room: the SDK does not give access to that, it’s not possible currently to add a tool in the Assemble Room.<br />-	There’s also no access to the vertex modeler, plugins can’t be added there.<br />- I don’t think there’s a way to do the blending between shading domain<br />-	Displacement Map: a tool already exist, Anything Grooves, from Digital Carvers Guild<br />-	Air system: isn’t the directional force already something like that ?<br />- 	particle system: somebody else is currently developing a particle system for Carrara<br /><br />Now I still have many things to finish so I won’t start a new plugin before mid-january, so I’ll still read all the comments and propositions you make, and make my choice later based on them.<br /><br />Thanks for all these suggestions<br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I do think a very useful plugin would be a swap plugin. That would allow you to swap a camera pointing at an object with a spot light (thus positioning the spotlight accurately) or say you have a series of spheres (perhaps you used replica:) ) and you want to replace the sphere's with models of trees you have created, just let Swap do it!<br /><br />Brian]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Two things I'm really desiring is RPF support, its a G-Buffer that stores information like pixel velocity so I can do the motion blur and Depth of Field in post using Combution. I don't know if there is any kind of developing info for that or not. Another thing I would like is support for 10-bit Cineon files. I do know that the file structure is available online here: http://www.cineon.com/ff_draft.php<br />but I don't know if Carrara is capable of doing that or not. <description><![CDATA[Hi Julien,<br /><br />Maybe I'm being too dumb to spot it, but is there any way that we could modify a replica operation after it's done? I can see (at least I think I can) that Replica is a one-time only operation, so unlike a modifier you can't adjust it afterwards, and neither can you preview it. This means (for me at least) a fair bit of trial and error doing numerous replica operations until I get the result I'm after. <br /><br />What I'm wondering is, is there any way you could add a preset saver to the plugin, so one could build up a library of settings that worked well? <description><![CDATA[Something that would come in very handy to me would be a plug-in that could read in ASCII data containing Time, PositionX,Y,Z and RotationX,Y,Z.  <br /><br />At it’s most basic, a keyframe would be inserted into the Timeline, and an invisible helper object would be added to the hierarchy.  Parenting a 3D model to this helper object would cause the model to translate and rotate to the values given by the imported ASCII file.<br /><br />It would also be great to have the ability to redefine the major axes to account for instances where the imported data is using a different reference system than that used by Carrara.  For instance, I would be driving the plug-in with simulation data with a North, East, Down (XYZ) reference, and the plug-in would be translating this to Carrara’s South, East, Up reference.<br /><br />Another useful feature in this plug-in would be the option to choose the type of interpolation between samples, for those cases where the sample rate is different than the animation keyframe rate. <description><![CDATA[I want to use a movie of water simulation rendered with the normal map renderer to create water effects that are cheaper than using surface deformation (add small detail to waves). <description><![CDATA[When I apply previously saved Veloute 2 shaders to newly imported objects I don't see the pattern I should see.  2D Random Lines doesn't do anything no matter what brightness/contrast I use in the settings.  Maybe I'm forgetting to do something first before I can use Veloute on an object?]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Julien, I recently purchased ArchiTools (yesterday) and absolutely love it! I am trying to make a city for a movie I'm making but now my problem is roads. It would be extemly difficult and take far too long to try to create shaders with lines for lanes and intersections, and I also can't think of a way to create road that precisly follows terrain to simulate roads in the hills or mountains. So I think you should make a Plug-In that basicly creates roads on terrain and plains.<br />But the cool thing about this plug-in is that when you create an intersection the "road builder" automatically sets up the "lines" on the road to look like an intersection! You should also be able to choose between 2,4,6, or 8 lanes and how large(if any) amedian or shoulder on a highway/road. It should also work similar to the path system in Rollercoaster Tycoon 1,2, or 3. (they work the same) So if you want to create a bridge over another road you don't have to create an intersection you can just create road over the other road. Kind of like overpasses and such. In creating turns there should be presets. Obviously tight medium and loose, you sjould also be able to create your own turns to make them as wide or tight as you want. It should be set up similar to how you ould "round" a turn in the motion path system in Carrara(5 is my version). You would simply create two points (on each side of the turn) and use a tool similar to the convert tool in Carrara's motion path system, and "stretch" the turn to how you want it. One more feature that I can think of would be the ability to choose different typesof road, such as, grvel or dirt, new, old ,realltyold, one with cracks every where, another with patched cracks or a mix of both, and mybe you sloud be able to put in potholes like you put in doors on ArchiTools. I hope I explained my general idea in an understandable form, I tend to make no sense at times! LOL!<br /><br />P.S. Anyone reading this who is wondering what ArchiTools is or is looking at buying it, ArchiTools is a must have building modeler that is more than worth the mere $89.00 you pay!!! <description><![CDATA[I think it would be really cool to be able too have modifiers in the ArchiTools modeler. So we could create ruins or holes in the wall. I also think we should be able to have rooms with no floor but still be able to have a ceiling, so I can create a better lobby for my hotel.<br /><br />Just a quick note, I've had problems with ArchiTools regarding rooms. My problem is this, I'll create a room inside an existing room(such as acloset inside a bedroom) and ArchiTools doesn'y reconise it as a seperate room. I need this fixed because I've tried creating elevator shafts by creating small rooms the size of my elevator inside my hotel, but when Idelete the floor inside the elevator shaft ArchiTools deletes thefloor for my whole lobby!!! <description><![CDATA[Julien,<br /><br />  I find Swap quite useful, but one very minor option would make it much more useful.<br /><br />   I'm doing most of my modeling in Hexagon, and then I construct my scenes (or complicated models) in Carrara. I imagine that a lot of people are now taking a similar approach (using Hexagon, or Poser, or whatever for modeling, and then using Carrara for scene assembly/layout and rendering). <br /><br />   It's often an iterative approach, replacing less refined parts (or placeholder parts) in the model or scene with more refined parts. .<br /><br />   Swap is handy in this scenario, allowing me to position the refined models (or parts) imported from Hexagon in the same place and rotation as the simplified models/parts in the Carrara scene (especially handy if you are refining, say a windshield wiper on a car, with the original already positioned correctly on the window), but Swap seems to depend simply on scaling for replacement size, and since objects always come in at 100% scaled, the sizes of the objects almost never match. So, as it stands, even with Swap, I still find myself writing down the xyz sizes of the simplified object, and after Swaping, modifying the xyz sizes of the refined object accordingly.<br /><br />   It seems that a simple Swap option allowing one to choose either 'by scale' or 'by xyz sizes' would make this extra manual work go away, and make Swap that much more useful. <description><![CDATA[This is something that is needed in Carrara and I think it would fit your product line. <br /><br />I want to be able to render the image and shadow and not the background, just like it does it in Poser. I don't know why this functionality isn't already in Carrara, because Poser has had it for a long time (since at least version 5).<br /><br />At the moment you can render to tiff, but getting the alpha channel doesn't always work, depending on the plugin you are using and sometimes you need to create animations.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[I have 3 suggestions for Baker to make it really much more useful.<br />1. Save all maps automatically option. Pick the format option then it saves them. <br />2. Write new shader in open file, or a cbr or car file, if that is an issue for some reason. Should support both the seperate domain and  merge domain option.<br />3.
